Body Awareness and Breathwork in Pittsfield, MA
Slow Down, Notice More, and Reconnect With Your Body
Your body is constantly giving you information. You may notice tension in your shoulders during a stressful day, changes in your breathing when you feel overwhelmed, or movements that have gradually become less comfortable. Sometimes, however, these patterns become so familiar that you barely notice them.
At New Move Massage in Pittsfield, MA, I incorporate body awareness and breathwork to help you slow down, pay attention, and develop a greater sense of connection with your body.
This work is not about breathing perfectly or moving a certain way. It is an opportunity to notice your individual experience with curiosity.
I meet you where you are and adapt the session around your comfort, needs, and goals. No previous experience with breathwork, somatic practices, massage, or guided movement is required.
What Are Body Awareness and Breathwork?
Body awareness is the practice of noticing what is happening within your body. That may include becoming more aware of sensation, tension, movement, posture, comfort, restriction, or the way different areas respond as you move.
Breathwork brings intentional attention to your breathing.
At New Move Massage, these practices can complement personalized therapeutic bodywork by giving you opportunities to notice how your breath and body respond throughout a session.
I may invite you to observe your breathing, notice sensations in a particular area, or explore a simple movement. These invitations are intended to increase awareness rather than force a specific response.
The experience remains centered on you.

Why Body Awareness Matters
Daily life can make it easy to disconnect from what your body is communicating.
Work, repetitive activities, physical demands, stress, and busy schedules can all draw your attention elsewhere. You might not notice how much tension you are carrying until an area becomes uncomfortable or movement begins to feel restricted.
Body awareness creates an opportunity to check in.
You may begin noticing when your shoulders rise, when you brace during a movement, where your body feels supported, or how your breathing changes in different situations.
These observations do not need to be judged as good or bad. They are simply information.
Greater awareness can help you communicate more clearly about what you experience and participate more actively in your bodywork.
Exploring the Connection Between Breath and Movement
Breathing happens automatically, but bringing attention to it can reveal useful information about how you are feeling in the moment.
You may notice your breathing becomes quicker or shallower during stress. During quieter moments, your breath may feel different. Certain movements may also change the way you naturally breathe.
Rather than telling you there is one correct breathing pattern, I encourage you to notice your own experience.
When appropriate, I may incorporate gentle breath awareness alongside movement or therapeutic bodywork. This gives you time to observe how breathing, sensation, and movement interact.
The goal is not performance. It is connection.
How I Incorporate Breathwork Into Bodywork
Body awareness and breathwork fit naturally within my broader philosophy at New Move Massage: working with your body rather than forcing it.
Depending on your needs, these practices may be combined with therapeutic massage, myofascial techniques, somatic awareness, cranio-sacral techniques, Thai Massage, guided exercises, movement, and intentional touch.
Not every session follows the same format.
Sometimes breath awareness may be a small part of an appointment. In another session, we may spend more time exploring how your breathing changes with movement or touch.
I listen to what you share and adapt the experience according to what feels relevant and comfortable for you.

Foundations Somatic Signature Session
For clients who want to explore this approach in greater depth, I offer the Foundations Somatic Signature Session.
Foundations Somatic Signature Session
This 120-minute session is $245 and provides extended time for consultation, assessment, treatment planning, and personalized somatic bodywork.
Foundations may be particularly helpful when you want time to discuss multiple concerns or better understand the relationship between tension, sensation, movement, and body awareness.
Rather than rushing directly into treatment, the extended format allows us to establish a clearer picture of where you are starting and shape the session from there.
Who May Benefit From Body Awareness and Breathwork?
You do not need to be experiencing pain to explore this work.
Body awareness and breathwork may appeal to you if you want to better understand your movement patterns, reconnect with your body, or create intentional time to slow down.
You may also be seeking bodywork for chronic pain, recurring tension, limited mobility, physical stress, or areas that consistently feel uncomfortable.
In these situations, greater awareness may help you notice how your body responds to movement, breath, and therapeutic touch.
Individual experiences vary, and I do not present breathwork or body awareness as treatment for medical or mental health conditions.
A Calm Space Without Pressure or Expectations
Feeling safe and supported is an important part of becoming more aware of your body.

You do not need to arrive knowing how to breathe differently, identify every sensation, or understand somatic terminology. There is no test to pass and no particular experience you are expected to have.
You are welcome to ask questions, communicate your boundaries, and tell me what you notice throughout the process.
My goal is to create a calm environment where movement and stillness can exist together and where you have space to listen to yourself.
